On Wednesday was the 4th annual Funes Digital Art competition held in room 342. This was basically a photographic arts competition for only VPA students and its just sort of a little mini competition between the students where first, second, and third place all get a $100, and gives the students a chance to showcase some of there work. I actually entered the contest however did not submit my jpg’s via email, which was in the fine print!!! so my images were not judged, (some what aggravating to say the least) however it was still cool to see some work done by my fellow students. Jacob in our advanced class won an award for his grid work, kudos to him and all the rest who won!!

Yesterday i was fortunate enough to check out some of the CSUSM students art pieces in room 111. It was their capstone presentations and there was truly some interesting work to be viewed. Its always amazing to see the caliber of work coming from our art students and this time was no exception. I have yet to be nothing but amazed with each art show i attend and this was certainly one that didn’t let down.

This past sunday i took a trip down to Balboa to check out MOPA and the current exhibition that was being held there. I have been to MOPA a few times and have never been let down, this time was no exception. The exhibit was titled “Streetwise” masters of 60’s photography. All pictures were in black and white and it was truly spectacular. Just to be exposed to that era with these phenomenal photographs is a treat in itself. There was all sorts of photos used, a lot had to do with Americas struggle to get past race and gender. And these photos really captured the trials and tribulations of people back then.
One photographer in particular who really stood out was Jerry Berndt. He had some of the best photos there in my opinion. Each picture captured such emotion and personality that it was as if you knew who each individual was and how they might act. One in particular was an African American lady, and words can’t describe it was amazing is the only label i can give it. I would certainly recommend that everyone make it down to this exhibit its only 6 dollars and well worth it. Check it out before its gone!!
